Bahraini Tourism Growing
In 2004, over 5.7 million tourists visited Bahrain - a number that may surprise some, but to those who know Bahrain as a cosmopolitan and vibrant nation, it is number that only reinforces their certainty that Bahrain is an attractive travel destination for families and individuals both. Tourist options in Bahrain range from the cultural to the recreational. Manama, the capital, is an energetic, cosmopolitan center with shopping, cultural events, concerts, ballet and exhibitions. The city of Riffa boasts an 18-hole evergreen golf course with conference facilities that attract business executives and tourists alike. As with any sunny island nation, water sports and activities abound. Scuba and pearl diving are popular choices. Bahrain also boasts of ancient historical sites, recreational opportunities and a range of accommodation options, including seven five-star hotels and fourteen four-star hotels in Manama alone. OERB Invited To Address Washington International Trade Association
In Washington recently, Dr. Naser Al Belooshi, Economic Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United States, joined Cathy Novelli, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Europe and the Mediterranean, to address a gathering of notable business and government representatives at the Washington International Trade Association's "Middle East Trade Update". The event was held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center on the "Middle East Free Trade Initiative" (MEFTI). With the MEFTI, The United States has embarked on a bold initiative to expand free trade between the U.S. and Middle East and to encourage economic development, transparent and accountable governance, and enhanced prospects for citizens of the Middle East region leading to a broad Middle East Free Trade Area (MEFTA) by 2013. Women To Play Expanded Roles in BahrainRecently, Her Highness Shaikha Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women, gathered over 150 governmental, private sector and international leaders to participate in a groundbreaking conference titled, "Women are Worthy Partners in the Country's Development and Growth". Participants met at The Ritz-Carlton Bahrain Hotel and Spa to discuss and to shape a new national strategy for increasing the role women will play in the future of the Kingdom.
