Construction of the Bahrain International Insurance Center Begins

The Kingdom of Bahrain made a giant stride toward solidifying its role as the preeminent insurance center in the Middle East with the announcement that Sheikh Saleh Al-Ali Al Rashed, a Saudi businessman, has earmarked US$50 million as an investment in the Bahrain International Insurance Centre (BIIC).

The BIIC will expand conventional and Islamic insurance business in Bahrain, a nation known for its advantageous financial climate, providing innovative new insurance mechanisms that will bring value to the entire Gulf region. The BIIC is a milestone development for the Bahraini insurance industry and it will serve as a catalyst for growth of GDP in the island nation. When complete, insurance giants from across the globe, who are keen to tap the vast regional insurance market, will see Bahrain as the undisputed insurance hub of the Middle East.

U.S. Congressional Staffers Tour Bahrain

U.S. Congressional Staffers Tour Bahrain

The Office of the Economic Representative of Bahrain (OERB) recently arranged and accompanied a group of leading U.S. Congressional staffers from the offices of the Bahrain Congressional Caucus on a five-day tour of Bahrain. During their time in Bahrain, the delegation called on a number of Bahraini ministries and dignitaries and paid visits to U.S. diplomats and military personnel stationed in Bahrain. They also toured the Bahrain Financial Harbor, the new Formula One facilities, Bahraini universities, the Bahraini stock exchange and the U.S. Naval base at Mina Salman.

The trip was a great success. Staffers came away with a better and deeper understanding of Bahrain's government, economy, culture and its longstanding alliance with the U.S.-a friendship that has lasted more than a century.

Manhattan Chamber to Host Bahrain-Focused Dinner

On May 19, 2005, the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce will host a business development and networking dinner focused on promoting bilateral trade and investments between the U.S. and Bahrain. The special reception for members of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce will be held at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations and will be themed, "Bahrain: Gateway to the Gulf".

Planners anticipate a lively exchange with much to discuss-past, present and, especially, future. The list of dignitaries and business leaders invited to speak is both broad and deep and they are expected to weigh in on the long-term outlook for economic cooperation between the two countries.

The evening will begin with registration and refreshments at 5:30pm leading into the in-depth program and followed by additional social time for networking.
